FIA, female, 2.5 years old, purebred Border Collie (with papers), medium size 15 kg. She is dewormed, anti-parasite treated, vaccinated, microchipped and castrated.
Let’s be clear from the start: Fia isn’t your “average” pet Border Collie. She is working-line powerhouse with an incredible brain and a drive that doesn’t quit. She is so dedicated to her craft that she’s even been known to herd leaves just to keep her skills sharp! 🍃🐕
💛 Personality: The “Must-Work” Mindset
Fia is smart, curious, and communicates excellently with people. She doesn’t just like to work, she must work. As a working line dog, she lacks a natural “off-switch.” Her owners actually had to teach her how to nap because she genuinely thought resting was unnecessary!
Despite her intense drive, Fia is a deeply sensitive soul. She picks up on every environmental stimulation, like loud noises, moving objects, and complex smells can be overwhelming. Because she can get nervous, she requires calm, clear boundaries, consistency, and positive reinforcement to feel safe.
🧠 Above-Average Intelligence:
Fia’s will to learn and perform is massive and impressive. Her repertoire:
The Classics: Spin (both ways!), roll over, wave, and weaving through legs.
The Pro Stuff: Good heelwork (walking and turning) and working with a target.
Restraint: She can stay focused even when her ultimate weakness, a toy, is right in front of her.
Herding & Nosework: She knows her “clockwise” from “counter-clockwise” and reliably marks cinnamon in various environments.
Thanks to her heritage (breed), she’ll sniff out a hidden toy for ten minutes straight without ever giving up!
Recall: Currently at 85%, so on-leash adventures are a must while you build that final bond.
🏀 Favourite Things
Sheep-balls: Her absolute favourite herding game (a perfect outlet for her nature!).
Adventure: Sniffing, digging, and splashing through water to catch droplets.
Cuddles: She enjoys affection, but strictly on her own terms once the “work day” is over.
🏡 The Ideal Environment
Fia is a high-performance dog in a sensitive package. To thrive, she needs:
The Countryside: City life is too overwhelming. She needs a quiet, spacious, and predictable home away from urban stimulation.
Solo Star: She needs to be the only dog at home. She is not suitable for a home with small children or other pets.
The “Collie Club” Social Style: Generally, Fia ok or best to say indifferent around other dogs, but in true Border Collie fashion, she prefers her own kind! She is a bit of a breed snob and gets along best with other herders who “speak her language”. If another dog gets in her face and interrupts her job, she can attack.
The “Decompression” Zone: An enclosed area with zero stimulation is essential so she can finally switch off and sleep.
The Partner: She needs a patient, positive-reinforcement-focused handler who understands Border Collies. A knowledge about this breed is a must! Interestingly, while she has the drive to herd, she may actually be too sensitive/afraid to herd real sheep.. she might prefer “jobs” that don’t push her anxiety.
